Bill Montague and Kelly Wittich

We have both been blessed with a very good standard of living and have been blessed to have been born, raised and lived in this wonderful community of Cincinnati. We recognize that a lot of our success came from hard work, but a lot of it also was because we had several advantages that aren't available to all members of our society. Because of our success, and because we are called by our Christian beliefs to help "the least of these", we have felt that it was important to support United Way at the Tocqueville level for several years.

Why United Way? For the last many years, United Way has concentrated its efforts in the areas of improving the education level of Greater Cincinnatians, improving the incomes of Greater Cincinnatians, and improving the health outcomes of Greater Cincinnatians. To put it even more simply, United Way is the main driver of poverty alleviation in the metropolitan area. This is so critically important. Poverty and its by-products are such a drain on the entire community - increased crime, increased desperation, decreased hope. For every life that is lifted out of poverty, that is a life that can improve the lives of his or her family, children and grandchildren, breaking the cycle of poverty. It is also a life that can become economically productive, and instead of having to rely on government assistance, becomes a taxpayer with pride of accomplishment and hope.

Why did we include United Way in our estate plan? Although we would love to see poverty eliminated in Greater Cincinnati during our lifetimes, that it not realistic. However, we are confident in United Way's dedication to and effectiveness in continually reducing the effects of poverty in our community. As long as we are alive, we can continue to contribute financially and personally to United Way's efforts. However, upon our deaths, our funding would stop, yet the needs would continue. We felt it was important to provide a principal gift to United Way at our deaths which would generate the cash needed to continue our annual contributions after we are gone.

We believe in the mission and effectiveness of United Way, and we hope you will also.
